Principles of Engineering
Emily Newton
About Me:
My name is Emily Newton and I'm currently a Junior at Southwestern High school. I'm a two sport athlete, playing tennis and running track. I find myself very competitive and hardworking. I first became interested in the course Principles of Engineering after I found I enjoyed a previous course, Intro to Engineering and Design which sparked an interest in engineering. While I love to learn, I found it easier and more enjoyable to apply my knowledge to projects and real world issues than when I'm sitting in a classroom learning the knowledge.

About The Course
Principles of Engineering is a course that prepares students interested in engineering to the major concepts they will use in engineering fields; as well as, in upper level education. This course previews many physics and mathematics concepts students will need to know if they decide to continue with engineering. Following the teaching of theses concepts, students are given projects that have real world problems that students must solve by applying these concepts. Due to this course being a college level course, students are expected to learn these concepts quickly, review material on them to do so as well as complete the projects by an assigned date.

Course reflection
Coming into the class with an already established interest in engineering, this course just enhanced the interest I already had. I found that just as the previous engineering course I took this class was just as hands on learning if not more. In the past I have struggled with understadning mathmatical and scientifical concepts, this course allowed me to see the concepts as well as prove them correct in the hands on projects we did. This course being an upper level course required many out of school hours due to its deadlines. Although the projects were to be completed fastly the concepts were still applied/learned well. These projects interested me and made me want to continue them. I found that many of the concepts introduced expecially the computer coding software interested me alot due to the projects. The only complaints I have for this course is the powerpoints and grading rubrics. I found that the power-points on concepts were difficult to learn. The grading rubrics I found to be unfair, they graded projects based on overall end results instead of splitting sections of the project apart which made it very difficult to receive points.
